
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,has officially commissioned the 480 million litres per day (MLD)‘Phases 3 & 4’ Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant.
During the commissioning of the plant, His Excellency gave a speech highlighting the success of the project,commending the acheivements of all those involved. Thereafter, he unveiling a marble plaque commemorating the occassion and went on to tour the new works with Giles Jackson, Regional Director for Africa, Biwater International.

“It was a honour to lead a tour of the facilities for His Excellency, who showed a real interest in the workings of the plant and its capacity to provide substantial additional potable water for the local population,” said Mr. Jackson.
He added, “A high level visit of this kind, which recognises the hard work of those involved and the success of the project is a great win for us, but an even greater win for the people of Abuja, who are able to benefit from the drinking water provisions that this facility provides.”

Also in attendance at the event, were a number of high ranking Nigerian officials including: Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Honourable Minister, Federal Capital Territory; Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, Honourable Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory; Engr. John O. Chukwu, Permanent Sectretary, Federal Capital Territory Authority; and Engr. Adamu Ismaila, Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority.

As the commissioning of the plant was underway in Nigeria, the 2014 Global Water Summit was coming to a close in France. As a part of the Summit, ‘Phases 3 & 4’ Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant was Highly Commended as a world-class facility in the 2014 Global Water Awards in the ‘Water Treatment Plant of the Year’ category. This news was received well by His Excellency Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and all those touring the facility during the official visit
