The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has donated eight agricultural tractors and 40 (500KVA)
transformers to major oil companies, under the umbrella of the Oil Producers Trade Section, OPTS of the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The agricultural equipment and transformers are meant to serve the host communities of the oil companies in the Niger Delta.
Handing over the items, the NDDC Director , Community and Rural Development, Mr. Nosa Agbongiasede, who represented the Executive Director, Projects, Engr. Tuoyo Omatsuli, said the partnership with OPTS had proven to be a very effective way of building community capacity for sustainable development. “We are very proud of this partnership because it helps us to increase opportunities for wealth creation in the Niger Delta,” he said.
The Co-Chairman of the NDDC/OPTS working level committee and a representative of oil companies and a staff of Chevron, Mr.Taribo Yellow, thanked the NDDC for the contributions to improving infrastructure for the communities in Nigeria’s oil-rich region, assuring that the tractors and transformers would be put to judicious use for the benefit of the people.
Mr. Yellow said that the NDDC had demonstrated its responsiveness to the yearnings of the people at the grassroots who had specifically requested for the items donated. He said that the donation would go a long way in fostering more collaboration with the communities and thus give the oil companies the enabling environment to operate.
The Oil companies that benefitted from the NDDC’s donation include Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, Exon Mobil, Chevron, Total, Oando/Energia, Adaxx, NAOC and Pan Ocean.
It would be recalled that the NDDC acquired over 100 tractors to support various ministries and cooperative societies in the nine states of the Niger Delta to boost food production and help to tackle youth unemployment as part of the transformation agenda of the Federal Government.
